
Nintendo plans to soon provide new video service through the Wii console. With the new feature, Wii console owners will be able to watch movies through the Internet access.
To fulfill the plan, Nintendo will work with the largest ad agencies in Japan, Dentsu. Programs which they’ll make later will be special programs only for the Wii console.
“Nintendo and Dentsu will complete the Wii console in living rooms, so that the TVs connected to the Wii will be more entertaining for family and relatives,” said Nintendo and Dentsu in a statement, as quoted from the site JapanToday.
This step was actually already done by Sony and Microsoft, who provides the distribution service of movies through their Xbox and PlayStation consoles.
Later on, Nintendo will offer this program in two options, which are free and paid programs. This Nintendo plan, will start next year, and will be limited for Japan only. While services for other countries, will be done after
Until the end of the year, Nintendo had about 34,500 million shipments of Wii consoles throughout the world, where 80 percent of them are connected with TVs in living rooms. While 40 percent of the console, is reported to have connected to the Internet.
Previously, Nintendo had provided online services for Wii console owners, such as online store, digital photo arranger application, and services to communicate between console owners via Internet.
