For those in love with the special kind of adrenaline that comes only from flying down a mountain on two wheels, this might be a godsend. The Bergmoench backpack bike is a lightweight (9kg), hand-built aluminium-framed mountain bike attached to a rucksack which it’ll politely fold into when not in use.
As a bike, it offers adjustable shocks and Shimano SLX disc brakes; there are no pedals, just foot pegs. The rider can choose to either stand up or kneel on the backpack on the way down. Bergmoench claims you’ll be able to collapse it into the capacious bag in two minutes, leaving you (as they put it) to “climb unrestricted with free hands and senses in touch with nature.” More »
